Belize lays in Central America, bounded on the north by Mexico, on the west and south by Guatemala and the iridescent Caribbean washes its 174 mile coastline to the east.

Probably the most striking natural feature of Belize, clearly visible from the air, is the seemingly endless barrier reef. At 185 miles long, it is the second largest in the world!

Dotting the Caribbean waters along the coastline are over 200 islands, called “cayes”.

The variety and quality of fish in Belize is a result of the diversity of aquatic habitats that support them. The barrier reef is the most important, providing shelter and food for a huge variety of crustaceans and reef fish which in turn attract larger predatory fish. The reef also breaks the strong ocean currents producing calm sheltered waters for fish. The country's second virtue is fresh-water rivers and their brackish estuaries which are often used by fish to spawn before moving out to sea. These Nutrient-rich rivers also dump a wealth of bio-mass into the sea which forms the base of the food-chain that supports larger game fish. The sub-tropical climate maintains water temperatures around 80 degrees Fahrenheit which is just right for literally hundreds of fish....

Guatemala enjoys virtually a year ’round season for sailfish.  In Guatemala’s unspoiled Pacific waters, days with finicky or non-aggressive feeders are few and far between. 

Guatemala is rated by Saltwater Sportsman magazine as the first choice for Pacific sailfish every  month of the year!

Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado (Dolphin), and Yellow Fin Tuna are the most common species. However, Guatemala is the place to go specifically for sailfishing. You can experience 15 to 20 bites a day and during the peak season of October through June. Average Guatemalan sailfish are big too, averaging 70 to 90 pounds and commonly exceeding 100 pounds. Blue Marlin are released in smaller numbers, but are caught on a regular basis. They average 250 to 400 pounds, but fish in the 800 pound range have been released.
